Why the Fox will thank you

deforestation

Most eco-conscious businesses now aim to plant trees in order to reduce their CO2 impact. That is a great cause which hopefully will help to combat climate change.

However, we decided to go down a different route. Most countries in the EU are good at managing their forests. They have strict regulations which ensure that clear-felled forests are replanted.

But it takes years for a newly planted forest to mature so that their ecosystems can thrive. When a forest is cleared, the habitat of hundreds of species is destroyed leaving no time for the animals to adjust.

Moreover, many species - from various type of moss and mushrooms to large animals such as lynx or wood grouse - can live only in large and old forests.

That's why preserving ancient woods is just as important as planting new trees. The idea about the importance of mature forests was so powerfully portrayed in a documentary movie "Ancient Woods" that left me and many others wondering what we can do to preserve these important and very delicate ecosystems.

The creators of that movie established the Ancient Woods Foundation which seeks to expand protected forest areas where no human activity is allowed.

Since not everyone owns a forest that can be donated to the Foundation for this purpose, we have decided to support this great cause by allowing you to make small donations. You can decide how much you want to donate by checking a box at the checkout page.

Little by little we can all help to expand protected forests and ensure that future generations are not robbed of rich and healthy ecosystems.
